Amaan is a dedicated safety tool empowering women to feel secure while navigating public spaces independently. With real-time tracking, users can share their location with trusted contacts, and the customizable SOS alert provides immediate assistance if needed. The companion website extends Amaan’s mission by offering educational resources and tools for additional support, creating a comprehensive platform for women’s safety and well-being.

This app was developed as part of the Google UX Design Certificate, with a focus on social good. As an Egyptian, I was deeply motivated to address the critical issue of women's safety in Egypt, where a 2013 UN Women study reported that 99.3% of women had experienced sexual harassment. This shocking statistic implies that of the current female population, over 52 million women or girls have faced, or may face, harassment within their own country. Driven by this reality, the app aims to be a dependable, customizable tool designed to empower women and make them feel safer and more confident while navigating public spaces.

The app’s interface prioritizes simplicity and clarity to support its primary function: the SOS button. This button takes center stage, occupying ample space for easy access, especially in moments of distress. All other elements are secondary, aligning with a clear hierarchy that makes the SOS button immediately reachable. The design uses high-contrast colors to enhance visibility and legibility, and the red alert signal unmistakably conveys urgency, ensuring that it stands out in any situation. This functional-first approach eliminates unnecessary elements, creating a streamlined experience suited to a critical use case where every second counts and simplicity can make a real difference in user safety.

In addition to the app, I designed a responsive landing page to further amplify Amaan's mission and provide an extended platform dedicated to women’s safety. The landing page not only mirrors the app’s functionality but also enriches the brand’s identity, tone, and core message. It serves as a space to communicate the importance of Amaan’s mission, offering educational resources, safety tips, and updates on relevant events, all aimed at empowering users and their communities. The site also invites visitors to connect with the cause, creating a comprehensive online presence that supports Amaan’s core values of safety, reliability, and empowerment.
